London Sash Window Restoration
We were called to a job in Walthamstow. This client was quoted £1,000 per window to restore (London prices + cost of replacement). With travel and accommodation expenses included, we still managed to beat their quoted price by 50%. Upon arrival, we found the windows were in somewhat of a state, but not to the extent of what the other companies had quoted for & we pride ourselves on honest pricing. We fitted polished brass fitch latches and new polished brass sash hooks.
Stargazing Window Restoration & Stripping
The two front panels on the apex of the window were bowing and leaking, causing damp in the house. With the help of Ashbourne Scaffolding, we stripped the windows completely, took the front two panels off, treated the effected areas with resin and primed the full window ready for our decorator (Longford Decorating Company) to finish the job.
Bramhalls Shop Front Restoration
The owners got in touch to see if the windows could be restored as two of the toughened glass panes had cracked. They had been quoted a lot by local companies to replace the full window, however we were able to restore the timber frame and only replaced the window panes - all at a fraction of the cost.
Lintel Height Adjustment
This couple found themselves staring at a wall every time they went to use their cooker as the lintel was too low. With the help of a talented plasterer (Alex Todd), we combined our craftsmanship to raise it above head-height at long last! Now they can actually see what they're cooking...
Oak Floating Fitted Shelves
This house in Belper was in dire need of upgrading. The owners had took this on as a project to bring back the warm feel using traditional materials. We soured some European oak and fitted the shelves using lime render, building out the inner walls with natural stone.
Georgian Single Hung Tilted Sash Restoration
This old coaching house in Winster has had some interesting work done over the years and was in desperate need of some restoration. The neglect had become that obvious that we saw the windows needed work. I dropped a card in and we got a phone call to start straight away. We started with the weights and glazed the windows with blown glass, continued to take away the tong and groove panelling to uncover the original lime plaster work beneath. Went in to the damaged areas with traditional lime render and plaster, restoring to it’s original look adding and antiquing an oak sill with a French polished finish.
Limed Kitchen Units
Returning to Church Mayfield, Mrs Alcock asked about another project for Jewett Carpentry. Years ago this kitchen was treated with an oil based lime, which came out orange and patchy. Having discussed options and budgets we decided the most cost effective way forward was to mix our own pigment to create a perfect finish, we stripped the units and restored the kitchen to how it was originally intended to look. With a more contemporary look and feel. Brightening the room was key and creating, in effect, a brand new kitchen. Our client was absolutely delighted with the result, as are we.
Draft Excluding Sash Windows
After strengthening & repairing the framework, we tackled the draft issue. The client asked for brushes to be fitted to the inside of the sashes but this is only a temporary solution as they are easily worn. Instead, we used memory foam inserts with new sliders to create a long-term, draft-free solution. This was one of many windows within the property, so the residents will be enjoying a cosy home this winter!
